Natural Zeolite Feed as a Superior Nutritional Solution for Broilers

A recent experimental study evaluated the effects of adding natural zeolite feed with varying particle sizes on broiler performance, carcass traits, meat quality, excreta and litter moisture, and intestinal measurements over a 35-day feeding period.
Study Design: Zeolite Dosage and Particle Size in Broiler Feed
The study involved 560 one-day-old female Ross-308 broilers, divided into five treatment groups (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 g zeolite/kg diet), with 16 replicates per treatment and 8 replicates per particle size within each treatment. Moreover, performance was recorded weekly, and carcass characteristics, meat quality, small intestine measurements, litter pH, and moisture content were assessed on day 35.
Effects on Broiler Chickens
The findings revealed that natural zeolite feed significantly influenced several important parameters:

Litter pH, breast meat redness, cooking loss, chewiness, total body weight, and small intestine length were significantly affected by zeolite supplementation (p < 0.05).

Particle size impacted gastric pH and meat texture.

The interaction between dosage and particle size affected meat color, litter pH, and cooking loss.
Interestingly, broiler performance was not significantly affected by either the main effects or the interaction. Nevertheless, a numerical improvement in performance and production efficiency was observed at zeolite levels up to 10 g/kg diet (p > 0.05).
Conclusion
The study found that larger particle sizes of this product show strong potential as broiler feed additives. Zeolite supports gut health, meat quality, and environment by reducing litter moisture, despite minimal impact on growth.
